Spending a wicked weekend in the country with the eccentric Bliss family provides hilarious surprises in Noel Coward’s sparkling comedy of bad manners. Retired actress Judith Bliss, her writer husband David, and their self-absorbed children, Sorel and Simon, set the scene for mayhem when each invites a guest for the weekend without telling the rest of the family. The four hapless visitors’ anticipation of a romantic weekend quickly turns to dismay and confusion when the Bliss family’s penchant for dramatics overtakes the proceedings and turns the weekend into an excuse for parlor games of the most unexpected variety. The Blisses make no bones about using people. They accept their egotism as part of their talent and don't try to hide it. But their vitality and humor redeem them. Their lack of conventional civility may be unsettling, but they give their guests something valuable in its place.
