Meet the Playwright

Zacory Nathaniel Boatright, a native of Topeka, started college
at Wichita State University, majoring in saxophone performance. After a tragic car accident, resulting in the death of a good friend, he left WSU, transferred to KU, where he graduated in May with a degree in English. Last year, Zac participated in the regional Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival in St. Louis, MO, and won the Grant Goodman Playwriting Award for
An Army of One
. In 2004, he won third place in the same competition, sponsored by the KU English Department, for A Collection of 10 Minute Plays: The Rutting Season, Muscle Memory, George and Monkey, and The Flashlight Tour. While a KU student, Zac had production experience with the English Alternative Theatre, working as the stage manager and sound operator for Jacosta, The Distance From Here, and Lucia Mad.
He was also a writing participant in the 24-Hour Play Festival at Independence Community College and a student volunteer for the Douglas County Jail Playwriting Workshop, sponsored by EAT. Zac and his wife, Mary, now live in Minneapolis, MN, where
Zac is a production specialist and technical writer for an audio and video firm specializing in digital display technology.
