A play that first earns a Pulitzer Prize, then is turned into a movie that wins an Academy Award is a rarity. A mad and merry farce, this comedy lets us look in on the antics of a demented family that is so unconventional it is irresistible. More of a party than a play, this screwball comedy takes us on a wild ride through the lives of the Sycamore family, whose everyday routine finds fireworks exploding, ballerinas twirling, and a daffy grandpa who believes everyone should just relax and do whatever they want to do. The play, which will be directed by a yet to be announced professional director, is being produced in conjunction with the American Theatre and Drama Society/KU Literary Society joint conference, “Writing, Teaching and Performing America.”
