The first play for young audiences to receive the Kennedy Centers Fund for New American Plays Award, this fantastical adventure centers on a little girls search for the simplest of things: home. Still Life With Iris is based on Caretakers of Wonder, a 1980 childrens book written and illustrated by Cooper Edens. In the play, Iris lives with her Mother in the land of Nocturno, a magical place where every night the workers make all the things we see by day. In Nocturno, memories are not in peoples minds, but rather are kept in their coats. The rulers of Nocturno, the Great Goods, are determined to have the best of everything on their private island so, since Iris is so delightful, they take her to be their best daughter.
