General

In consideration of our actors and other audience members, children under age five are not allowed to attend performances. All patrons, even children, must have a ticket to attend performances.

As a courtesy to our other guests and to the actors on stage, please refrain from talking during the performance. Patrons who create disturbances will be asked to leave the theatre.

All cell phones and other electronic devices must be turned off during performances. Texting is not allowed during performances.

The use of photographic, video, or recording equipment during performances is strictly prohibited by law.

Theatres

Crafton-Preyer Theatre

The Crafton-Preyer is the University Theatre main stage and features reserved seating for 1130 patrons.

Food is not allowed in the Crafton-Preyer. Bottled or lidded drinks are allowed. The Murphy Hall Hawk Stop is usually open before curtain and during intermission of Crafton-Preyer performances.

Latecomers will be seated at the discretion of the House Manager. In most cases, latecomers will be seated in the balcony and allowed to take their assigned seats at intermission.

William Inge Memorial Theatre

The Inge Theatre is a black box theatre and features general admission seating that varies based on the configuration used for each production.

Food & drinks are not allowed in the Inge Theatre.

Because of the intimate nature of the Inge Theatre, latecomers will not be seated after performances begin.

Stage Too!

Stage Too! performances take place on the stage of the Crafton-Preyer Theatre with the audience seated on the stage, close to the action. Stage Too! performances are general admission and seating varies based on the configuration used for each production.

Food & drinks are not allowed on Stage Too!

Because of the intimate nature of Stage Too!, latecomers will not be seated after performances begin.

Accessibility

The University Theatre is committed to making its productions accessible:

• The facilities are accessible to persons using wheelchairs. Recent improvements include additional accessible parking in the Murphy circle drive and a ramp in the lobby of the Crafton-Preyer Theatre.

• Requests for special seating accommodations can be made by contacting the University Theatre Ticket Office, 785-864-3982.

• The Crafton-Preyer Theatre is equipped with infrared hearing devices for persons needing hearing assistance. 

• Patrons needing a sign language interpreter should notify the University Theatre Ticket Office at least 10 days in advance of the performance to be attended.

Parking

Free parking is usually available in Lot 54 to the west of Murphy Hall. Permits are not required on evenings or weekends. The Allen Fieldhouse garage is also open during performances and charges $1.75 for the first hour and $1.50 each additional hour. There are parking restrictions on campus during home football and basketball games that may affect our performances. Additional information on game-night parking will be posted here as needed.

Directions

The University Theatre Ticket Office, The Crafton-Preyer Theatre and the William Inge Memorial Theatre are located inside Murphy Hall, 1530 Naismith Drive, on the KU Campus in Lawrence, Kansas. Murphy Hall has a circle drive at its main entrance. The main entrance is a row of nine glass doors. Through the glass doors and to the left is the University Theatre Ticket Office and to the right is the Crafton-Preyer Theatre. Straight ahead, up the ramp, then to the right and down a long hallway is the William Inge Memorial Theatre, at the end of the hall on the right.

From I-70 (also known as the Kansas Turnpike) - Take the West Lawrence exit (#202). After passing through the tollbooth, continue straight ahead (south) on what becomes Iowa Street (Highway 59) until you reach 15th Street (stoplight, large dormitories on the left). Turn left (east) onto 15th Street. At Naismith Drive (four way stop), turn right. This immediately takes you along the west side of Murphy Hall, which is the main entrance.

From K-10 - Heading west on K-10 from the Kansas City area, K-10 turns into 23rd Street as you approach Lawrence. Stay on 23rd Street until you reach Naismith Drive (stoplight, Dillons is on the left). Turn right (north) onto Naismith Drive. The road is a divided boulevard. Once you come to the end of the divided road, Murphy Hall is directly ahead. Turn left at the stop sign. The road (still called Naismith) curves right and immediately takes you along the west side of Murphy Hall, which is the main entrance.

KU Students

Discounted tickets are available for students to all of our productions. All KU students are required to present a valid KU/ID at the door for admission at each event.
