Shakespeare in Hollywood

by Ken Ludwig

Sporting a mix of historical reality and farce in a two-act hilarious comedy, this deliciously inventive play combines mischief, mayhem and laughter into a fanciful, but poignant and sophisticated story. It's 1934 and Shakespeare's most famous fairies, Oberon and Puck, have magically materialized on the Warner Brothers set of Max Reinhardt's film A Midsummer Night's Dream. Commissioned by the Royal Shakespeare Company and premiered in 2003 by Arena Stage, Shakespeare in Hollywood won the Helen Hayes award for Best New Play of that year. If you’re looking for a fun evening of theatre, this production will charm you as it combines the feel of madcap 1930s comedies with a Shakespearean classic.
