First staged in 2007 at the Mark Taper Forum in Los Angeles and moved to Off-Broadway in the spring of 2009, Distracted is a provocative story of a mother and her easily distracted, volatile son, who has been recently diagnosed with Attention Deficit Disorder. So many questions befuddle the parents: does their nine-year-old son really have AD/HD? Should he be medicated? Will his disruptive classroom behavior get him bounced from school? This biting and sometimes sarcastic comedy breaks the ?fourth wall? as Mama shares comments, answers rhetorical questions from the audience, and tries to decide whether or not to accept her son as he is?to just ?let him be.? This contemporary and witty play looks at the issues surrounding the more frequent diagnoses of ADHD among today?s children.
