Keely and Du
by Jane Martin
- Directed by Katrina Bondari
- Scenic Design by Madison Spencer
- Costume & Lighting Design by Dennis Christilles
No issue in contemporary society is more difficult to discuss openly and rationally than abortion. It is an issue that pits proponents of "choice" against defenders of "life," that forces the most fundamental questions of happiness, virtue, and self-determination. Playwright Jane Martin believed the best way to shed light on this seemingly insoluble debate is not to debate it at all. Her provocative and volatile drama, Keely and Du, focuses instead on how people manage to care about one another--or fail to--in spite of religious and ideological conflict. When Du, a radical Right-To-Life activist, and Keely, a pregnant rape victim she confines, transcend their circumstances and the ideological issues that separate them, they develop an unlikely bond with a deeply felt humanity that refuses to become political.
This production deals with adult subject matter and includes strong language. It is not suitable for children.
