Based on stories by Damon Runyon, “Guys and Dolls,” was a successful 1950’s musical with a long run on Broadway. In the show, Sergeant Sarah Brown of the Save a Soul Mission is vainly trying to spread the Word and make a difference to the sin and depravity of the streets of New York City. Adelaide, a showgirl, is desperate to leave behind her seemingly glamorous lifestyle for a white picket fence and roses round the door. Nathan Detroit just wants to find a new location for his floating dice game. And the coolest, highest roller of them all, Sky Masterson, is a man who would bet on anything that would turn him a profit. Desperate to find money, Nathan bets Sky a thousand dollars that Sky will not be able to convince Sarah to go with him to Cuba. Sky eventually gets Sarah to join him and, to his shock, ends up falling in love with her. When he returns to New York, he bets all the members of the crap game that if he wins his roll of the dice, they will all have to go to the mission. If he loses, he will give them each a thousand dollars. He ends up winning and all the gamblers end up visiting the mission and repenting their sins.
